Last week we sat down around the dinner and Amy ask the kids a great question. It's a question that we had hoped would help to shape the summer. So we asked, "What would you want to do this summer to make it fun?"
Amy had a pad of paper and we asked each kid. Here are some of the activities that are making the top 5 in our 2015 Higham Summer Bucket List.
Atop our bucketlist is a day at our local amusement park, Kennywood. Steeped in history, this 110 year old park has entertained young and old with rides, attractions, coasters, and eateries. As our guys have gotten older, their interest in the park has grown. Like many around here, a trip to Kennywood is a summer must. And the Higham's are following the local tradition. So we'll be heading to Kennywood to experience all the park food, fun, and tradition! Visit Kennywood here: www.Kennywood.com
2. The Beach
A Higham Family tradition is a trip to the beach. Amy grew up spending her summers in Ocean City, MD. for the first couple of years of our marriage, Ocean City was our vacation home! We loved it. This summer we'll be heading south to a new beach...Bethany Beach, DE. The sand, the water, the boardwalk, the sights, the sounds, and the smell; everything that we love about being at the beach. We're really looking forward to family time in Bethany. Visit Bethany here: www.townofbethanybeach.com
3. A Baseball Game at PNCPark
Hands down, Pittsburgh is home to one of the most beautiful ball stadiums in the country. PNCPark looks out on the city of Pittsburgh in a dramatic scene. A trip to the stadium is always an exciting event, and with the Pirates playing some good ball, there's a good chance you'll see them win! This summer, we're hoping be head to the stadium on Faith Night. Faith Night is an event that follows the game where members of the Pittsburgh Pirate share their faith with the fans. It should be a great night of baseball and worship. Play ball!
4. Just Ducky Tours, Pittsburgh, PA
It's one of the most fun ways to see the city of Pittsburgh, Just Ducky Tours of Pittsburgh! These super cool, amphibious vehicles drive you through the city pointing out some great sites while sharing some of the great Pittsburgh history. Then it's time to splash as you cruise to the point and around the city on the water. It's an experience you should definitely have when in the city! Look up Just Ducky Tours of Pittsburgh to schedule you next tour.
5. Plain Ol' Family Time
As you know live with 5 kids can be a little crazy. The school year is packed with activities like school, sports, jobs, homework, and school activities. Throw in ministry, careers, church stuff, and community commitments and you have a pretty full calendar. Most evenings are spent taxiing kids, making meetings, cheering at sporting events and wrestling with homework. But summertime, well that means family time! We come to a place in our family life where we've realized that in two short years our oldest will be off to college. It will be here in a blink; along with about a dozen changes to how life looks. So we have decided to make our remaining time together as memorable as possible. This summer, along with our bucket list, we will be making every effort to enjoy as much family time as possible!
So these are our top 5 activities for our 2015 Higham Summer Bucket list. We have a number of other items that we want to do. Things like..
- Summer Camp
- Swimming in a Pool
- Go to A Wave Pool
- Go to Flight, an indoor trampoline place
- Visit the Community Rec Center
- Go Miniature Golfing
- Visit a Driving Range
There are lots of things that the kids came up with, but the top five were the big ones.
As we make our way through the summer we will be sure to share our adventures as we check items off of the list. But we'd like to hear from you! What big activities are you and your family looking forward to this summer? Comment below and share with us and our readers some of the summer plans you are making for your family!
And as always, thanks for reading!
